Saxby Chambliss wins!

Saxby Chambliss is back in the Senate by winning just about 60% of the vote. He needed a little help to win.

Plenty of heavy weights came to Georgia to help secure the win. Living here I appreciate the help but what really helped was that Saxby changed some of his message.

I have been ranting for months that the Republican message was off the mark by a bunch. In this runoff cycle Saxby shifted some of his ads to what he plans on accomplishing, and what it means to have Republicans in the Senate, vs. a straight negative campaign.

I have no doubt that if he would have continued to dump on Jim Martin and not have explained what he planned on accomplishing then he would have lost.

He would have lost just like all of the Republican candidates this past election cycle that ran on their opponents not themselves. All of those silly negative ads only enhanced their opponent’s status and mobilized their opponent’s base.

Here is an idea that is also relatively inexpensive – quit advertising for the other candidate.

I’m not saying that if you have a legitimate issue that you should not promote that differing opinion of your opponent. As an example: In 2004 there were ads asking if John Kerry was a war hero?

What I’m saying is that people only have so much time, so above all don’t waste other that time. You only have a few seconds to get YOUR message across – why risk talking about your opponent and mobilizing thier base.

There are two years until the next congressional election. My advice to all Republicans – find a cause, find a message, find an appropriate candidate, then tie them all together into an effective campaign.

To all of the doubters that emailed me with the doom and gloom of a Saxby Senatorial loss I say – HA! This is still Georgia, we see the light, we have the ability to see through the fog that the candidates spew and vote the issues that are critical to conservatives.

Congrats to Senator Chambliss!
