Welcome…

Posted by David A. Peterson on 7. November 2008 in Introduction |

I’m David A. Peterson and I would like to welcome you to my web blog – USA Reference. The USAreference.com domain name is one that I have owned for years, and I have been thinking about writing a blog based on my conservative view of current events for all of those years. With the defeat of so many conservatives in the 2008 election cycle I decided that now is the time to apply this domain to my conservative thinking.

I have no idea how I became a conservative. I’m currently 47 years old, married, with one son. I live in a middle class neighborhood, and I run a small Internet business from my home. My wife just returned to corporate America after years of raising our child. Basically I’m just your average middle aged man.

I can’t remember any conversation while growing up dealing with politics or conservative views at the dinner table. I just found out that two of my sisters voted for President-elect OBama. During my years as a traveling salesman I used to watch CNN constantly in my hotel room. I am definitely a news junkie. I would get a little upset and not stay at that hotel again if they didn’t have both CNN Headline News and the CNN news channel.

While traveling for my job on the Florida Turnpike I found Rush Limbaugh by accident while searching for any radio station on my car radio. I bet lots of traveling salespeople reading this post can relate to searching through the AM channels trying to pick up anything on the radio.

I believe that I actually grew into my conservative skin. Rush, Fox News, Bill O’Reilly, didn’t find me – I just gravitated to them as the years progressed. The funny thing is I rarely listen to Rush these days, maybe once a month at the most. I read CNN.com as often as I read Foxnews.com. I probably spend more time with CNBC both on the web and on cable as I do with any media outlet. I like Bill O’Reilly but I can go a couple of weeks without watching him on cable.

I’m hardly radical. I don’t go to political events. I don’t tell people my views unless they ask in person or happen to find my blog. I’m just a normal everyday guy.

Well here we are 47 years after my birth; I have decided to place my conservative views on my own personal blog. I will be focusing on current events being spun across the various media channels. I watch a lot of “talking heads,” read a lot of news articles, and even occasionally look at real newspapers. What I really want to accomplish is to take a topic, research that topic from several sources, and give you the finer points delivered by the major and minor media outlets. I like to call the finer points “snippets.”

You will not find 2,400 word essays on USA Reference. My goal is to keep all of posts around 500 words. These snippets will also have my own personal conservative bend while giving equal time to those that may disagree with my view of the facts.

Enjoy
